Light Balancing Filter Guide

Different light sources emit light of different color temperatures, and film is produced (or digital cameras can be set) to optimally record light of a certain color. The color temperature of light is measured in Kelvin (K) units.

If you're using tungsten film, you can achieve the correct color balance for shooting in midday sunlight by using an 85B filter.
Conversely, you can use an 85B filter to make midday sunlight (5500K) look warmer (3200K) if when you're using daylight film (or a "sunny" setting on a digital camera).
